#WomenEd: Women leaders on board!

04.27.2021 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Gemma O'Brien

More women are needed on education trust boards and company boards such as charities and local businesses. Find out why and what you gain!
Full Description

This event is for all women leaders who report to Boards or Governing Bodies, who are aspiring or existing CEOs, or who want to know more about being a Board Member of a charity or local business.

#WomenEd and Women on Boards are collaborating to explore the benefits of women in education becoming board members. Women now make up one in three boardroom roles at the 350 top UK firms and in European companies with 22.5% of Fortune 500 board seats in the United States. However, in 2019, there were more Steves than women who were CEOs of the top 100 FTSE companies. In 2020, of the 98 largest trusts, 28 per cent (27) were led by women

Gender parity still has quite a way to go.

Women who are education CEOs are, of course, already working with their trust board and we will explore everything you always wanted to know about such a partnership. Is it like being a staff governor or being a member of another school's Local Governing Board?

And why should you consider becoming a board member of a local business, a charity or even another trust's board?

We have four amazing women to tell all!

Caroline Morse is Trust Lead (CEO) for Saffron Academy Trust in Saffron Walden. Caroline will share what she has learned about working with her Board of Trustees.

Fiona Hathorn is CEO of Women on Boards, an organisation which breaks down barriers to boardroom entry in the UK for women.

Kathryn Grice is the founder of The Teacher Empowerment Project, co-owner of Grow Tuition and a board member for the Calderdale and Kirklees Women's Centre.

Vivienne Porritt is Vice President of the Chartered College of Teaching (Governance), a Member of Eko Trust, and will have just attended her first meeting as a Non-Executive Board member of Captiva Learning Ltd!

If you are interested in becoming a board member, Women on Boards have 6 bursaries on offer for their comprehensive support package for women who could not afford it otherwise.
